Field Archaeological Dig Site Concealment
In a significant field excavation, the project achieved complete coverage of all exposed dig areas. Fine mesh camouflage nets were stretched over the entire site. This step concealed the archaeological layout from the air and visitors. The nets were easily lifted by workers and helped maintain moisture levels on the fragile exposed surfaces.

An extensive archaeological trench network in a Central Plains dig was safeguarded using layered camouflage. Teams fully draped each open trench with a fine camouflage mesh that resembled draping vines. The mesh prevented any direct line-of-sight from above, so that amateur drones or curious onlookers could not take pictures of the artifacts.
At the same time, the net reduced direct sunlight on the dig face, keeping moisture in the loamy soil and shielding fragile terracotta pieces from sun bleaching. The netting was lightweight but strong; crew members could fold or roll sections aside when working, then snap them back into place. Multiple layers ensured that even if one panel tore, the area remained covered.
Observers on site noted that once installed, the net created a subtle green weave across the excavation. From outside, it was impossible to make out square pits or linear rows of artifacts. In effect, the excavation blended into the natural environment. Officials praised this system for meeting both the security and preservation needs of the heritage project, establishing it as a standard practice for high-profile digs.
