Mine PV Eco-Restoration Demonstration
On a rehabilitated mine site, all exposed rock faces were fully shrouded in green vegetation nets. These disguised the mine’s damage and prepared the land for vegetation growth. Any transition zones under solar panels were similarly covered.

In the mine restoration project, the goal was to blend a used mining area back into the natural landscape. The team laid faux vegetation nets over all the steep rock slopes that had not been planted yet. Each net sheet had a live-plant appearance. The edges of these sheets overlapped, leaving no visible gap. They also extended beneath the photovoltaic panels at base areas where loose soil remained.
While covering the bare rock, the nets blocked sunlight and moisture, making the surface habitable for seeded vegetation. Meanwhile, at the solar array’s edges, nets covered the rough soil edges to create a smooth transition. Workers ensured there were no pockets of exposed ground remaining.
Visually, the entire mountainside took on a green tint. The effect was that of a lush hillside rather than an excavated pit. This concealment provided an immediate aesthetic improvement. Ecological inspectors found that the area met erosion-control criteria. The camouflage net thus performed both ecological and visual functions, paving the way for a greener ecosystem to develop.
