Hilly Forest Armor Full-Spectrum Camouflage Application

Learn More Details

During a field exercise in hilly mixed forest, armored vehicles were fully covered with camouflage nets. Irregular layers and interwoven foliage rendered the vehicles nearly invisible against the underbrush.

Armored equipment hidden with full-spectrum camouflage netting in hilly forest terrain

In a mixed hilly and woodland terrain, a military training exercise required concealing armored vehicles from aerial observation. The camouflage team executed a full-coverage draping for each vehicle. They applied a camouflage net in two staggered layers on the roof and sides. This “stacked” configuration prevented the net from lying flat and forming a visible grid; instead, it created a three-dimensional rough surface.

Local vegetation (twigs, vines, and leaves) was woven through the mesh at multiple points, tying the net into the environment. Overlapping the nets ensured any shiny spots (weapon barrels, periscopes) were well hidden beneath foliage. Net edges were weighted with soil and tied to ground anchors to keep them from moving. The chosen netting was a multispectral jungle pattern that reduced both visible and near-infrared detection.

Effectiveness was measured by drone flybys. Each pass returned negligible signatures of the vehicles. Once deployed, the vehicle group resembled small bushy hillocks rather than metal hulks. Commanders noted that the camouflage maintained the vehicles’ mobility (nets didn’t snag) and still provided full concealment. This project highlights a practical net-based camo solution for armored forces in green terrain.
